It was a great weekend with Sensei Mikami at the 17th annual Acadiana Training Camp in Lafayette. We had a very spirited group and I am going to try to post a camp picture on the web site soon so that everyone can get a copy of it for their campers.
We also had a kyu test as part of the clinic and the results are posted above. We had very high scores from Sensei Mikami and he clearly was in a good mood. We had a couple of students who jumped a rank and a half, which is rare. One jumped a rank and a half at brown belt level, which is very uncommon.
The dojo has one new black belt, Brynn Blanchard. She is the 54th black belt that our club has certified with the Japan Karate Association. She did an outstanding job in receiving this lifetime honor.
The New Iberia Karate Institute (NIKI) is the oldest and only traditional karate club in the city and parish. It was first established in 1973. The Chief Examiner is Takayuki Mikami, 9th Dan and the Chief Instructor is Mr. Scott Decuir, 6th Dan. Mr. Decuir has been certified by the JKA as an instructor, examiner and judge. This blog is an opportunity for members and friends of the dojo to get information on Karate and events and interact with each other and Sensei.

We will be closed tonight, Monday, July 15, 2019, because we only have intermittent electric services today and there is currently no electricity. I hope everyone fared well from the storm. I am very hopeful that classes can resume as scheduled tomorrow. Please try to stay off the roads and keep safe. OSU, Sensei Scott

Here are the results of the Kyu belt exam. I was very pleased that everyone achieved their next belt and that the students showed good discipline and technique. If you click on the image above, it will get larger and easier to read. If you have any questions about the grade or the rank, please feel free to inquire. I often take it for granted that we have a very complex grading system that might be confusing for parents or students. Thanks for the hard effort and for making me look good! 3 for 3!
Osu,
Sensei Scott
