The dojo will be open tonight.  We have electricity and water and the roads are not as icy as this AI generated picture would suggest.  Please join us tonight to train and generate some heat.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Kyu Exam on 7-25-24.  Here are the results of the test.  Sorry for posting so late.  If you click on the image it will enlarge.  The results were good, but not quite great.  Kumite (5 step sparring, 1 step sparring and semi free sparring) was definitely the strength of the group.

Everyone, but especially the higher ranks, need to get lower in their stances by bending the supporting knee deeper.  To improve strength in the knee you can practice squats, leg presses, lunges, step ups and calf raises to supplement your karate training.  Improved flexibility can be achieved by stretching more and including yoga and Pilates techniques.  Elevating the group spirit by forceful kiais and focused techniques will improve your grades as well since proper mental attitude is the most important criteria you are judged on.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

These are the results from the test of 7/13 for those who attended.  Congratulations to everyone on getting a new belt.  If you did not attend or could not attend (which was a fairly large number), there is still the chance to participate in the supplemental summer test we will have in August.  If you click on the image it will enlarge.  Thanks, Sensei Scott

These are the results from the test tonight.  If you click on the image it will get larger and easier to read.  Everyone made some progress and a number of students did very well.  Be serious and alert when you test.  You only get one chance, so you have to make the most of it.  Congratulations to everyone. I hope a lot of students take the opportunity to train the black belt preparation seminars this weekend at the dojo.

It is Monday, 8/30, and I am happy to report that no damage was suffered by the dojo and the utilities are on, so we will have class tonight.

We were very fortunate that the storm took another path and our thoughts and prayers go out to those in Ida's path.

Here are results of the Kyu belt test.  If you click on the image it will get larger and easier to read.  Overall, I thought the group had a very good test and everybody made progress.  As the pandemic recedes and we begin to engage again in light and close contact, I appreciate all the hard work and spirit that each student has shown in their training.  Keep training hard, it shows.  Congratulations and OSU,  Sensei Scott

Due to the impending hurricane and the curfew in Iberia Parish, classes will be canceled Thursday October 8, 2020 and Friday October 9, 2020.  Everyone please stay safe and be careful.

I have boarded up the Karate school for the impact of the storm.  Hopefully, classes will resume as normal next weekend if we have electricity and are without significant damages.  Please check the web site for updates.

Osu,

Sensei Scott

I am canceling karate tonight 8/27 due to hurricane recovery. Many of the major streets around the dojo have no electricity and no lights. However, I can find no major damage to the dojo and it appears to have never lost electricity. Classes resume Friday 8/28 at 5:15 pm.

Wednesday, August 26, 2020

Karate classes will be canceled tonight 8/26 due to Laura. There are curfews in effect in Iberia Parish that would preclude classes. If we have electricity, classes should resume tomorrow. I am sorry for these cancelations.

OSU,
Sensei Scott

Tampa Bay area schools to close ahead of Hurricane Irma's landfall ...

The Karate School will be closed Monday August 24, 2020 as we will be under a hurricane watch for Marco.  I am watching the path of Laura to determine if we need to cancel any other classes this week and I will post it here.

Thanks,

Sensei Scott

Thanks to everyone who came to karate last night.  We had 11 total members who trained.  Unfortunately, I did not realize I had to daily schedule the zoom meeting, so we played our zoom to no one apparently.  I am sorry and I am trying to understand how to do these meeting effectively.

Anyway, it should work now with the same address 819 257 9284 with PW still NIKI.  If it doesn’t work, please let me know and I will try to see what I can do to make it easier to access.

I look forward to seeing all the kids tonight or seeing you all on zoom.  Please note, the zoom classes are no longer interactive, so I can’t see you when you look at the training.  So please at least watch the classes to keep your spirits up when it comes to your training.

Thanks again and sorry for the mixup last night,

OSU,

Sensei Scott
